Zero Tolerance Means Zero Thinking

The plight of clock-maker Ahmed Mohammed illustrates many things, but one of them is the harm caused by the zero tolerance society.  That the US has moved to restricting discretion, having teachers, principals, and whoever else that they must follow strict guidelines.  This is funny because these folks (especially admin) are hired to make decisions--to consider each situation and assess what are the risk and benefits for the particular circumstance.

Simply put, one size does not fit all.  We logically would need far fewer administrations if all decisions could be made by referring to a rulebook that provides no discretion.  Zero tolerance should mean fewer personnel, right?

In other words, FFS.
